While Los Angeles flights to LAX are perhaps most common, not all flights to this area land here. Unlike the New York City island of Manhattan that sits in a small area and spreads upward, the Los Angeles metropolitan area covers a vast area that sprawls across four counties, spreading as far north as Simi Valley in Ventura County, as far south as Camp Pendleton in Orange County, and as far east as San Bernadino in the county of the same name. In the center of this is Los Angeles County, which consists only of the city and some remarkably rugged and extensive wilderness.

Cheap flights to LAX are commonly sought after and researched, and flights to Los Angeles International Airport have you at the city's main air facility and one of the busiest commercial airports in the world. However, the metropolitan area is so vast that it can take two to three hours to drive from LAX to the San Fernando Valley, or even to downtown Los Angeles or Beverly Hills. People whose final destination is one of the many outlying communities here (such as Burbank and Pasadena) will be better served by getting their airfare to Los Angeles into Bob Hope Airport (formerly the Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport).

In fact, this facility is actually geographically closer to central areas, like Hollywood, than LAX is, especially if landing or departing around the rush hour, which pretty much lasts the entire day. The Bob Hope (locals call it Burbank) Airport, is one of the best sources for cheap flights to LAX as its primary airlines are some of the newer "no frills" carriers. Also in the San Fernando Valley is Van Nuys Airport, the world's busiest general aviation airport. This means it has no commercial passenger traffic. However, many of the rich and famous who fly to LA in their own private aircraft will use this facility. Parked here on any given day may be John Travolta's Boeing 707, the U2 Band plane, or Bill and Melinda Gates' aircraft. One of the most unique dining spots in the city can be found here. The 94th Aero Squadron is set right at the edge of the runway, and is designed to look like a World War I French farmhouse, complete with bomb craters in its thatched roof. Diners are treated to landings and take offs of some of the vintage aircraft who use this airport to practice the barn storming aerobatics of a bygone era.

International Los Angeles flights and long haul flights from the East Coast still will land primarily at LAX, which is located in the community of El Segundo, about five miles south of Santa Monica. You can get your airfare to Los Angeles into this airport from almost any city in the world. Along with San Francisco and Seattle, it is one of the gateways for flights to and from the Far East and Australia. The other international airport in the metropolitan region is the Ontario Airport, located only about fifteen miles west of San Bernadino. The only direct international Los Angeles flights to this facility are from Guadalajara in Mexico. There are also flights from a number of major United States cities, including Atlanta, Chicago, and Denver.

Other possibilities for airfare to Los Angeles include John Wayne Airport with flights between Alaska, Hawaii, Denver, San Francisco, Detroit, as well as other United States cities. This facility primarily serves the communities in Orange County. More limited flights arrive at Long Beach Airport, located only eighteen miles south of LAX. But there are cheap flights to LAX into this facility using some of the "no frills" airlines.
